would thoroughly recommend ----------------------- Cafe de Cómpeta our definite favorite for a Cafe/ Bar 5 stars
Best value in town situated in the "bottom square" there is presently a car park opposite, but will it very shortly be a plaza, the car park is to be situated adjacent to what is the present car park, but will be enclosed & therefore cooler. Marie Carmen is the owner and her and her staff will give you a wonderful welcome, whether you just have a coffee, a drink, tapas or a menu del dia. I will guarantee that you will not find it better quality, value or cheaper anywhere in Spain. Many Spanish use the bar, because of the good value, who will also welcome you, just say "hola" & see the response you receive, it will enrich your experience visiting Cómpeta & make you want to return. You may recognize the photo of Marie Carmen below in el restaurante "la Casona" (as she also owns that with her brother Sergio)

Cómpeta was believed to mean crossroads in the old Roman language,
and situated on the crossroads that gave rise to this
name is a traditional Spanish bar by the name of " Venta de Palma".
"Venta"
is an old Spanish name for a bar, which in days gone by,
only served wine & basic food. The ventas also
offered lodging to both people and animals. Originally
there were 4 ventas, La Posada, La venta Maria, La venta
Cebollero y La venta de Palma. The first three are now
ruins leaving just La Venta de Palma. In the main they
were frequented by "campesinos" (peasant
farmers) who would go into the countryside to set their
traps (Catalambre) to catch wild partridge, then visit
the ventas for refreshment. " Catalambre" Nowadays that has changed and this "venta" offers
everything you would expect from a bar, including
excellent food, while still retaining it's traditional
Spanish heritage. It also now has an international I would thoroughly recommend a visit to this bar even if only for a
cerveza or a copa de vino and a tapa, just to soak up
the atmosphere. While there you may see the goats
go by the front door on their daily sojourn to graze,
and no doubt there will be an Andalucian horse tied up
to a nearby rail, while their owner pops in to quench
their thirst La Familiar de "Venta de Palma"
